It would be interesting to hear from anyone who might have any experience managing game servers and how to allocate server hardware to various instances of your game server engine. What are some providers you use for your hardware? How do you balance player count vs how taxing any particular instance is? How does this factor into determining your server’s tick rate?
At Naughty Dog, we run all of our game logic on clients because of our peer-to-peer networking model and we do very little work on the server, so this is a topic we don’t deal with much and I find it fascinating.
